Morphogenetic Vaults
Research on Form-Finding
This research takes cues from jellyfish ephyra, which retains symmetry when divided, to investigate the generation of varied structural networks. The investigation starts with two dimensional branching plans that are grown using recursive algorithms. These diagrams are converted into vaults using physics simulations, where symmetrical and asymmetrical branches and their structural configurations are explored. The resulting structures can be constructed using bent planar elements that can be connected to midribs of the vaults, achieving both structural and aesthetic continuity, thereby combining the unique qualities and symmetry of jellyfish ephyra with modern fabrication techniques for architectural innovation.
